Further Heatwave Information 19th July

Dear Parent/Carer,

Firstly, thank you for your ongoing support of the Academy during this unprecedented period of hot weather.

Today the school building was much cooler than the temperature outside, which allowed students to remain as cool as possible and be in a safe environment. The students were fantastic today and I look forward to another great day tomorrow.

Tomorrow, the same uniform relaxation rules will be in place as they were today which include:

  • Students will also be permitted to wear knee length plain shorts instead of trousers (students may also choose to wear a knee length skirt, in line with our current policy.)
  • Students will need to continue to wear their school shoes and white collared shirt as normal, without the need for their top button to be fastened.

The temperature is due to be a little warmer tomorrow, with the peak of the temperature due to be arriving between 3pm – 5pm. As a result, the Academy will finish at Period 5 tomorrow (Tuesday 19th July), with students leaving at 2:25pm. This is to avoid students being in the Academy or leaving at the hottest point of the da, as they did today with the academy finishing at 2:00pm.

I appreciate that this may cause some issues with childcare arrangements, so anyone who wishes for their child to remain at the school until 3:20pm will need to contact the Academy to request this.

With temperatures due to drop significantly for Wednesday, the Academy will be open as normal from Wednesday 20th July, with students expected to wear shirts, trousers or skirts and black school shoes.

Thank you once again for your support and I look forward to seeing all students tomorrow.

Kind Regards,

Marcus Shepherd

Principal of The Wells Academy
