School Closure - Strike Action 15th and 16th March
The Academy is only open for Year 11 on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March due to National Education Union Strike Action.
Dear Families,
Re: Teachers Strike Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March
You may be aware from media coverage that the National Education Union has declared further strike action, which will take place on Wednesday 15th, and Thursday 16th March 2023. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay, and not because of any issues at our school.
As with the previous strike days we have had to make the difficult decision of whether we can effectively open the Academy. We have not taken this decision lightly. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students and feel that we would be unable to keep the whole school open with the staff we have available. School will be closed for Years 7, 8, 9, and 10 on both days.
To support Year 11, we remain open for this Year group. Students will have a bespoke provision in preparation for their GCSEs. All Year 11 students are expected in school on both days which will include period 7 as normal the day will end at 4.20pm.
To support the families of Year 7 students, we will open a supervised activity/study space for parents who require this. Confirmation of this will be done on a case-by-case basis. To secure your child’s place in either provision please contact admin@thewellsacademy.org by Tuesday 14th March at 3 pm. Lunch will be available for students who are on site.
All families in receipt of free school meals will receive a voucher on Tuesday 14th March. This will be given to your child.
I am sorry that you will have to make alternative arrangements for your child at short notice. All students will be expected to return to the academy on Friday 17th March
Kind regards
Mr G Coles
Principal
