Literacy and Numeracy Catch Up Premium Funding

Year 7 literacy and numeracy catch-up premium

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2). It is provided to all state-funded schools with a year 7 cohort, including special schools, alternative provision setting and pupil referral units. The Department for Education has allocated £500 per pupil for this academic year.

In 2014-15 the allocation for Nottingham Academy was £36,000

In 2015-16 the allocation for Nottingham Academy was £37,500.

Using the Funding

Schools are expected to assess the needs of their individual pupils to decide the best way to use the funding. At the Nottingham Academy, the funding has been used to effectively:

  • Enhance the rate of progress in reading ages
  • Maximise the effectiveness of SEN learning mentors and teaching assistants
  • Provide a variety of literacy interventions to suit individual learning needs
  • Improve learners’ attitudes towards learning and engagement through a secure pastoral system
  • Increase numeracy levels through peer support and one to one support
